RESEARCH FIELD

Mara Matta is Lecturer of Modern Literatures of the Indian Subcontinent at the Italian Institute of Oriental Studies (ISO) of the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ and Postdoctoral Fellow in South Asian Studies at the University of Naples ‘L’Orientale’ (UNO), where she was awarded a PhD in South and East Asian studies with a thesis on the contemporary Tibetan prose theater and the coming up of Tibetan cinema in China and in the diaspora. She is currently conducting her Postdoctoral researches among the indigenous people of Bangladesh Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHTs) and the Rakhine communities living across the Bangladesh/Burma borderlands. Among her main research interests are indigenous literatures and cinemas of Northeast India and Bangladesh, political theatre in South Asia, issues affecting tribal communities living across borderlands in South Asia, minorities rights. Beside her academic activities, she is a member of the NETPAC (The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) and of the AMM (Archive of Migrant Memories, Rome).
